All about WordPress 4.7 “Vaughan”

The best thing about WordPress is that it’s evolving constantly. With each release comes a bunch of updates and features that makes this awesome CMS all the more fun. WordPress recently launched Version 4.7, named “Vaughan” honouring the legendary jazz singer Sarah “Sassy” Vaughan. If you have a WordPress website, consider upgrading to the latest version now. Our Warrington web design team recommends taking a backup before every update. If you are not sure how to go about it, ask an expert, like Blue Whale Media, to do it for you. So here are some of the bells and whistles that WordPress 4.7 boasts of.

New Default Theme

Every year, WordPress brings a new version of its default theme that WordPress comes loaded with. The latest one titled Twenty Seventeen is clearly for business websites than the previous versions.

Default Content

Earlier, when we loaded up a new theme onto a fresh WordPress install, it would be installed without content. Developers had to work fill in the widet areas, menus, posts and pages with dummy content during the design phase. WordPress 4.7 will allow your Warrington web design team to provide content at the time of installation, which can be edited using the customiser interface.

Custom CSS

CSS is used to add visual styles and elements to your site. With WordPress 4.7, editing the theme’s CSS is possible. We can now see those changes within the live preview of the customizer.

Video Header

Video backgrounds have gained a lot of traction over the past couple of years. WordPress 4.7 provides support for this eye candy out of the box. What’s more, you can upload your own video or even use your YouTube videos.

Improved Menu Workflow

When working on a new website, we would have to create all new pages before creating the menu from the menu editor. With WordPress 4.7, our Warrington web design experts can create new pages right from the menu editor thereby saving a lot of time switching back and forth.

Edit Shortcuts

The customizer interface has been updated too, and now comes with an array of edit shortcuts. These shortcuts make editing content a breeze. Icons appear around the editable areas, so your Warrington web design team can edit while looking at the live preview.

There’s More

There are many other exciting updates with WordPress 4.7 that we are really excited about including post-type templates, custom bulk actions, REST API endpoints and an updated WP_HOOK.
