Simple Productivity tips for organising your work life

Simple Productivity tips for organising your work life

Organising your work life can sometime be easier said than done, no matter what profession you are in it is always important to ensure you can be organised. This will allow you and others around you to perform better.

Time Management

Being able to manage your time better is a key start to becoming more organised. Here at Blue Whale Media, we manage our time by using schedules. This allows us to spread our time equally throughout the day, ensuring all our tasks are complete in a timely manner. I would highly recommend using a schedule if you don’t already as you will notice a big different in your workload. It also makes it harder to accidentally miss a task off as it’s all already written down in front of you. When I first started at Blue Whale I was not using a schedule, I found it difficult to manage my time equally. Once I began to use one I noticed a big different in the way I work, instead of having to remember what I needed to do next, it was already planned out for me; along with how much time I would be spending working on the task.

Reducing time spent in meetings

Having staff meeting are important for all businesses, however, spending too much time in a meeting starts to interfere with work. It’s simple things like this that can have massive impact on your workload. By talking about the most important topics in a meeting first can ensure it’s still efficient. Also maybe consider just having one big meeting once a week instead of having lots of small ones. This is a good way to get more organised, as it allows staff members to put the time a side for the meeting.

Having regular scheduled breaks during the day

Making time to actually take a break can be difficult for some people, especially if they have a very high workload. It’s so important to allow time for yourself no matter how busy you are. Even if it’s just going to make a cup of tea, being away from your desk will help to clear you mind and allow you to focus again. By sitting at your desk all day long non stop working or being in back-to-back meetings will demotivate you.

Working from home

Working from home has may advantages, it’s become more common for people to be working from home. Employers have to be quite flexible these days as people have lots of different commitments. Employers have also seen that staff who work from home are more likely to complete all tasks they have been given. They are less likely to call in sick and take shorter lunch breaks. Although it’s not possible for all employees to work from home, there are things you could be doing at home to help you at work. This may include writing up a document you need or doing some research on a topic, small things like this will allow you to be more efficient at work.

Switching off your phone and desktop notifications

It can be difficult not to click on a notification when it pops up, however this is a simple way to ensure you are not getting distracted. By only allowing yourself to check them at set times during the day, you can concentrate on your workload. The same goes for emails too, I am guilty of getting distracted by incoming emails, unless it’s an important one I will only read through them once I have finished a task and before I go onto the next task. This is a great way to motivate me to finish my work and allows me to remember where I am up to.
